Maybe it’s the fact that I just went to Florence’s Christmas markets or the mulled wine got to me, but I’m finally in the spirit of the holidays. Up until this point, it had been 70’s and sunny in a country that doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving or Black Friday. Being a true Midwestern girl, I equate the holidays with snow, colder temperatures, Thanksgiving day and time spent with family… none of those I currently possess. So now that I am beyond eager for the holiday’s, I’m doing a play on the color palate of Christmas… the chic alternative. Rather than wearing a cheesy and combination of red, white and kelly green, I’m sophisticating it with jewel tones of bordeaux and hunter green. This eliminates the risk of resembling the old lady down the street rocking a reindeer sweater with Christmas reef earrings.
Also on the less literal side of spirited, it metallics. During the holidays, they are absolutely everywhere. But all silver can come across as gold, all gold can come across as cheap. So for me, mixed metals has always been my plan of action, whether we are talking about a pile of necklaces or my Christmas tree in my living room.
